Given that there is a lot to manage on a working farm, effective record keeping tools are essential to the success of any farm business.
During this free webinar, we’ll introduce FarmOS: a free, flexible, and powerful web-based tool for managing farm records for everything from crop planning, to pest management, to livestock inventories. FarmOS also lets you map your crop fields, view soil maps, and use modules to track when to plant, cultivate your fields, and apply soil amendments—and more! The software has a growing user base of farmers, researchers, and developers—including organizations like PASA, the University of Vermont Extension, and the US. Forest Service.
FarmOS lead developer Mike Stenta will walk us through the basics of using FarmOS to develop and track a vegetable crop rotation plan, including greenhouse inventories, planned versus actual field operation dates, and projected versus actual harvest dates and quantities.
By participating in this webinar, you’ll understand how to get started using FarmOS to improve whole farm management. Webinar participants are eligible for free FarmOS hosting via a PASA server (at least a $50 value).
For farms participating in PASA’s Soil Health Benchmark Study, we’ll also help you pre-populate your FarmOS account with the farm record data you’ve already contribute to the study dataset.
Michael Stenta is the founder and lead developer of farmOS, an open-source farm planning and record keeping software application.
Franklin Egan, Education Director, PASA: Franklin leads PASA’s research and education teams who work to foster a farmer-to-farmer learning network, facilitate registered apprenticeship programs for vegetable farmers and dairy graziers, and coordinate on-farm research on topics that include soil health, financial viability, and water quality. Franklin holds a PhD in ecology from Penn State University, and has worked on vegetable and dairy farms in New York and Wisconsin.
