Larger Herd, Low-Overhead Dairy Grazing
Join Farmer Discussion Group and Farm Tour
A Northeast Dairy Business Innovation Center grant-funded project is exploring the viability of larger-herd, low-overhead dairy grazing systems for the Northeast. This system strives for labor efficiency (>75 cows per worker), high-throughput milking system (>75 cows milked/person/hour), maximum nutrient intake from grazed pasture with smart supplementation, and low cost of buildings and machinery relative to value of cows and land.
If you are interested in learning more about this system and understanding its financial performance, we will be holding a free monthly (virtual) discussion group and an in-person tour of low-overhead dairy grazing farms.
If interested or have questions, please contact Jon Winsten, Ph.D. (ag economist) at winsten.vt@gmail.com.
