What’s an Ultimate Grazing School and Why should I register?

The adjective, ultimate means "maximum," or "the highest degree of something". Countless grazing people say learning in the pasture is the ultimate. We’ve heard the call and designed a program around having boots on the ground, eyes focused, heartrate raised with the safety of asking meaningful questions and creating scenarios that fit diverse objectives.

In the context of our grazing school, we are maximizing observational learning in the field and letting the land teach us from the way we humans manage and impact it. We have a diverse group of practitioners that lead through experience and relationship building who point out the subtle nuances in the “why it matters” game.

Day 1 activities include: Introductions and meet the hosts, context discussion, developing a practical grazing plan/setting up grazing chart, determining forage inventory, shapely grazing & sizing a paddock (group), moving animals, observe grazing behavior, understanding body condition and nutritional aspects of feeding livestock and assess a variety of before & after grazing impacts. Bonus** Open to the public twilight pasture walk and ice-cream social

Catered lunches both days by the Amish church community

Day 2 activities include: See the results from previous ultra-high density grazing impact, rumen fill, look at biological life signs, wildlife considerations and monitoring concepts, get inspired by a robust soil health pit demo, delve into the nuances of silvopasture management, assess current stockpile forage growth and treaded in cover crops, discuss planning and forage allocation of winter grazing and bale grazing and bringing it all home for your context.
