Feed Price Summary May 2011

Corn Price Update March 2011
Upper Midwest (Des Moines, IA)
4/30/11
For the following states: WI, MN, IA, SD, ND, NE, KS, MO

Trading in organic grain and feedstuffs were higher than March 2011, with moderate to good demand for alternative feed grains, and moderate demand for corn and soybeans. Offerings of feed grade corn and peas were reportedly lighter due to limited supply. The price range of feed grade corn was steady to firm this period. However, the weighted average was higher than the previous week due to increased volume of corn at the higher end of the range late in the reporting period. As conventional corn prices drive producers to demand higher organic prices, increased prices and use of alternative grains is growing increasingly prevalent. Recent snow and rain in the Dakotas as well as flooding in several states is weighing heavy on the minds of farmers and grain buyers alike. Some organic farmers have reportedly switched from small grain production to corn and/or soybean production in light of the recent availability of organic crop insurance for those commodities.

Monthly and fourth quarter average prices are located below.
