Grain Market Update, July 2010

Added July 17, 2010

Corn Price Update July 2010
Upper Midwest (Des Moines, IA)
7/15/10

Wheat and flax trade was noted but trade in the Upper Midwest region was too light to trend an accurate market. Heavy rain in the region hampered farmers' opportunities for field work, causing some serious weed problems for producers. The recent dry period in many areas of the Upper Midwest has prompted urgent cultivation to curb further weed growth in flooded and excessively wet areas.

According to the latest USDA NASS Grain Stocks report, all wheat stored in all positions on June 1, 2010 totaled 973 million bushels, up 48 percent from one year ago. Monthly and fourth quarter average prices are located below.

All prices FOB price per bushel except where stated (trucking cost needs to be added)

Compared to two weeks ago, organic grain and feedstuff prices were steady to weak. Cash sales for organic grains were light to moderate. Hot and drier weather across the cornbelt helped to dry previously soggy corn and soybean fields. With the winter wheat harvest nearing completion, reports of high levels of vomitoxin and low test weights in some areas.
