Grain Market Update, May 2010

Added May 17, 2010

Corn Price Update
May 2010
Upper Midwest (Des Moines, IA)
5/2/10

Trading in organic grain and feedstuff prices were lower with light demand than in February.
Offerings of grain were moderate with good availability. Wheat mids were reported $140-$160 per ton. While some producers still report that their grain bins are full due to an excess of corn and wheat in the market, organic grain prices have again declined this period, with many factors playing a role - the most predominant being the current state of the economy.
Monthly and fourth quarter average prices are located below.

All prices FOB price per bushel except where stated (trucking cost needs to be added)

Compared to last month, organic grain and feedstuff prices were lower with light demand. Trading activity was slow, especially as more farmers busy planting than selling grain. With grain inventories near capacity, end users are unwilling to buy ahead with the potential of lower prices. This has limited buying interest for organic grains and has helped to pressure organic grains lower.
