Grain Market Update, April 2010

Added April 2, 2010

Corn Price Update
April 2010
Upper Midwest (Des Moines, IA)
3/24/10

Organic grain and feedstuff prices are lower than February with light demand and offerings reported. #2 yellow corn was reported as steady to $.25 lower with light demand, while wheat trade continues to see lackluster demand with heavy offerings. As planting season draws near many farmers are expecting delays due to excessive moisture. While some producers still report that their grain bins are full due to an excess of corn and wheat in the market, concerns regarding the current state of the economy are weighing heavy on the minds of consumers, which is an added hit to the market.

Monthly and fourth quarter average prices are located below. All prices FOB price per bushel except where stated (trucking cost needs to be added)

Organic grain and feedstuffs traded steady to weak in February. Demand was light to moderate for heavy offerings. Buying interest was light with limited spot sales reported. Many dealers have been selective in buying organic grains due to poor quality and large inventories. This helped to pressure organic grains lower. All prices FOB price per bushel except where stated (trucking cost needs to be added)
