Corn Price Update

Upper Midwest (Des Moines, IA)
9/23/09
Organic grain and feedstuff prices were lower with light demand and moderate offerings and slow market activity. Rye continues to see lackluster demand. This week the USDA reported that 40 percent of the conventional soybean crop had dropped its leaves, indicating that U.S. crops are slow to mature this year. Frost is still a major concern and many are in a wait-and-see mode. Oat prices were steady. New crop corn is being priced from $5.50 to $6.50 per bushel.
All prices FOB price per bushel except where stated (trucking cost needs to be added)

Eastern Cornbelt (Springfield, IL)
9/23/09
Organic grain and feedstuff prices traded steady to firm. Demand and offerings were light to moderate. Feed grade corn and wheat were steady. Trading activity was active for feed grade soybeans which supported prices. With the upcoming harvest season just around the corner producers were busy inquiring about price levels for new crop corn and soybeans. Indications for new crop feed grade corn ranged from 5.00 to 6.50 per bushel. Feed grade soybeans ranged from 16.00 to 18.00 per bushel. In the northern areas of the cornbelt frost was reported but limited damage was recorded.
Most of the Cornbelt has experienced plenty of moisture this summer which has produced some poor quality of wheat. Confirmed cases of wheat affected with vomitoxin and sprouting has spread throughout the eastern states.
All prices FOB price per bushel except where stated (trucking cost needs to be added)
