Compared to two weeks ago, organic grain and feedstuff prices were steady to weaker on moderate demand and offerings. The corn and soybean crops have seen much improvement over the weeks with the warmer weather and timely rains. Some areas thought have seen some wind damage from recent storms. South Dakota's conventional spring wheat harvest is behind due to rain. For the week ending July 27, the USDA shows that very little spring wheat has been harvested, compared to 30 percent a year ago and 26 percent for the five year average. Winter wheat harvest is behind too.
National oat harvest is lagging too with only 18 percent completed this week, compared to 41 percent last year. Several tons of wheat mids sold during the period from $280 to $300 per ton. A few new crop corn sales from $10.50 to $11.00 per bushel.

Compared to two weeks ago, organic grain and feedstuff prices were mostly steady on moderate demand and light offerings. The main concern right now is the livestock industry, which is beginning to really hurt from high organic grain prices. Beef cattle, dairy cattle and chickens are being turned back to conventional. Some organically raised cattle are being put on grass only. Producers are inquiring about new crop prices but are reluctant to do anything for 2 reasons. One, some producers don't know what kind of crop they will have after the tough planting season. Two, some producers have a great crop but feel that prices could go higher. Additionally, buyers are facing a lot of uncertainty about fuel charges. Shipping companies are starting to hit their customers with some hefty fuel surcharges. Organic alfalfa is looking rough too. It's had too much rain and not enough heat. RFVs are not very high. New crop bids are as follows: feed grade corn from $9.50 to $11.00; feed grade soybeans from $23.00 to $24.00; food grade soybeans from $28.00 to $32.00; spring wheat from $18.00 to $24.00; winter wheat from $15.00 to $19.00; feed grade oats from $5.50 to $7.00. A large number of bushels of new crop organic winter wheat have already been traded.

Compared to two weeks ago, organic grain and feedstuff prices were mostly steady. Trading activity was slow for light to moderate offerings. Feed grade corn and soybeans prices were steady to weak. Wheat trends were not established. The arrival of new crop wheat and spelt helped to pressure prices lower. Demand for feed ingredients was light due to higher feed cost and rising fuel surcharges. Many livestock producers are pulling back from purchases and sending cattle to greener pastures. Reports of feed grade soft red wheat ranging from 11.50 to 12.75 per bushel.
