East & Midwest Grain Prices, May 21 2008

Upper Midwest (Des Moines, IA)
5/17/08
Organic grain and feedstuff prices were steady on light demand and offerings. Corn trade slowed from the previous reporting period, while there were a few soybean trades. However, soybeans and oats are hard to find in the market. Overall, trade remained quiet. Producers are concentrating on planting and not so much on marketing. It did dry up across much of the Midwest to allow for planting progress. Organic crops are also being planted now. New crop bids for feed grade corn are from $8.00 to $9.00 per bushel. New crop bids for feed grade soybeans are from $22.00 to $24.00 per bushel. New crop bids for food grade soybeans are from $25.00 to $29.00 per bushel.
All prices FOB price per bushel except where stated (trucking cost needs to be added)

Trading activity was slow with very light demand for organic ingredients. Feed grade corn and soybeans were steady. Lack of producer selling due to planting progress limited buying interest this week. Tight supplies for soybeans and wheat continue to support prices. Reports of imported soybeans ranging from 29.00 to 33.00 delivered. Food grade, soft red wheat ranging from 16.00 to 20.00 per bushel.

All prices FOB price per bushel except where stated (trucking cost needs to be added)
