Corn Price Update
Upper Midwest (Des Moines, IA)
10/31/09
Organic grain and feedstuff prices were mostly steady with moderate demand and offerings. Wet conditions continue to slow down farmers in the fields, and talk of a long harvest is prevalent.
According to USDA NASS, only 25 percent of the conventional corn crop has been harvested, compared to 53 percent on November 1, 2008. Soybeans are 51 percent harvested, compared to 85 percent one year ago.
All prices FOB price per bushel except where stated (trucking cost needs to be added)

Eastern Cornbelt (Springfield, IL)
10/31/09
Organic grain and feedstuffs traded mostly steady with demand and offerings light to moderate. Trading activity was sluggish as end users have a lot of questions about the condition of this year's crop. Saturated field conditions and high moisture levels are some of the factors that has hampered harvest activity. However, forecasters are predicting a drier weather outlook which should allow for corn and soybean harvest to improve. Indications for new crop feed grade corn ranged from 5.00 to 6.50 per bushel. Feed grade soybeans ranged from 16.00 to 18.00 per bushel.
Most of the Cornbelt has experienced plenty of moisture this summer which has produced some poor quality of wheat. Confirmed cases of wheat affected with vomitoxin and sprouting has spread throughout the eastern states.
All prices FOB price per bushel except where stated (trucking cost needs to be added)
